BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE UNIVERSITY
The First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University is one of the five biggest medical faculties of Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. Founded in 1348 by the King of Bohemia and the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Charles the Fourth, it is the first medical faculty in the central part of Europe. Situated in Central Prague, the faculty educates in the field of general medicine.
Around 3300 students have enrolled in the university till date. It is known for its Bachelor and Masters degree programmes along with several Ph.D. study programmes. The two main study programmes at the faculty are General Medicine and Dentistry, taught both in English or Czech.

The First Faculty of Medicine has almost 1100 staff members and over 3300 students which makes it the largest medical faculty in the Czech Republic. The basic principles are taught in classrooms, and acquired knowledge base is consolidated using seminars and exercises. The majority of clinical instruction takes place at the University Hospital in Motol. The other teaching hospitals include Hospital Na Bulovce, Military University Hospital in Prague, Thomayer Teaching Hospital and General University Hospital in Prague.

Offered Programs / Brief Overview of Program

Since its beginning, it has a history of teaching different student bodies in different languages: originally Latin, it was later joined by Czech, German and English. Bachelor level programs and Master level programs with specializations are offered in:

General Medicine
Full-time 6 year Master degree MUDr. – Doctor of General Medicine
Dentistry
Full-time 5 year Master degree MDDr – Doctor of Dental Medicine
Other offerings include Doctoral level programs (PhD, DLA) and Study Abroad Programs. German-speaking students who are interested can finish their education in the clinical subjects, in 4th academic year, at the Klinikum Chemnitz.
Each student can apply once per year to only one of the study programs. You are allowed to file one application per study program. It is not possible to apply for the same study program in English and Czech. Students can start with the application process while completing their secondary education.
The process of applying can be done directly by filling in the online application form or by contacting one of the representatives. A fees of 640 CZK has to be paid for application registration.
